Roman Rivera Torres

On Tuesday the “Father of Puerto Aventuras”, Román Rivera Torres, came to visit with our class. He told us about his vision twenty five years ago for a safe community. He told us how when he was trying to attract investors, one of the investors said that Roman was trying to get them into a jungle adventure and at that time the investors preferred Cancun. Hence the name Puerto Aventuras. He told us some of the legal and permit difficulties he has had over the years. He has never bribed an official, but he has had some very creative ideas.

He told us about the European inspiration for the original marina from Port Banus, Spain and about the street lighting which is low and designed for walking. He told us about the private security and the zero crime rate. The only crime is the occasional borrowing of a golf cart or a bicycle, and it is usually found within a week.

He is an honest and humble man. We enjoyed his talk very much and were inspired by his accomplishment, the beautiful Puerto Aventuras. He shared his tips for success with the students. He told us that he always had goals and focus on those goals. He is dedicated to his goals and he learns from his master plan, adjusting as necessary. He doesn’t procrastinate and he lives in the present moment.
